| Introductory Seminar Explore Volunteering with Your Animal If you are interested in giving back to your community and taking the beautiful bond you have with your dog to an entirely different level, you should definitely come to the Introductory Seminar. This 90 minute seminar is an overview of therapy animal work and is designed for the potential handler. You will learn about becoming a registered therapy team. Animals do not attend. Obedience Class Class does not have to be completed prior to the beginning of the workshop. However, it is beneficial to start them as soon as you enroll in the Team Training Workshop. In order to be eligible for Team Training Workshop, a dog should be mature and have a stable, friendly temperament; dogs that show any type of aggression will not be allowed into the class. Build upon the skills you already have with your animal and feel confident going into the Therapy Team Evaluation (PPSAT). Team Training Workshop The Team Training Workshop combines lecture, discussion and role playing and an onsite visit with a registered therapy team. It covers the fundamental information needed to succeed as a Therapy Team. Learn the skills needed to visit safely with your animal in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, treatment centers and more. Through the lecture, group discussion and role playing, you will discover how to interact effectively with clients and keep your animal safe in all visiting situations. You will be able to witness the joy that a real volunteer visit from a therapy animal brings to clients of all ages. Therapy Dog Skills Class Therapy Skills class will focus on the required commands needed to pass the Delta Society Pet Partner Evaluation (PPSAT). Dogs need to be responsive to basic obedience commands before enrolling in the class. Pre-Registration Required. Germantown Road Bartlett, TN 38133 Fee: $25 each session Therapy Team Refresher Class Handlers who are due for renewal testing (PPSAT) often feel anxious about going through the test again. Even teams who visit regularly can benefit from reminders of key handling skills. The handlers will also be updated on the latest Delta Society policies and procedures. In this one-hour course you will learn how to build upon the skills you already have with your therapy animal to feel confident going into the PPSAT. The course is taught by licensed Instructors.
