Pet Partners Handler Training Workshop and Pet Partners Evaluation
This Pet Partners Handler Training Workshop combines lecture, discussion and role playing. It covers the fundamental information needed to succeed as a Pet Partner. Topics include:

The Handler

Introduction to the Pet Partner program; AAA and AAT; your needs and responsibilities. History of human-animal interaction programs; what is AAA and AAT;

The Animal

Where does your animal fit in; acting as your animal’s advocate; reading and understanding animal body language. Learn what makes an animal team suitable; understanding the expectations and preparing for the Delta Society team evaluation;

- The Client
- Basics of client interaction; client disorders/disabilities, learn how a treatment team works and how to partner effectively with them; learn about considerations for visiting a variety of populations, including elders and children, terminally ill, clients with physical disabilities and psychiatric disorders and specific cultural or minority groups;

The Visit
-
Preparing for and executing a successful visit. Learn what is required and what the basic guidelines are, and process of, visiting with clients; discover techniques for approach, interaction and closure of visits; infection control procedures for the handler, animal and client; dynamics of interaction with clients presenting with various conditions; and how to most effectively protect, yet utilize your Pet Partner in each visit situation.

The Facility

Types of facilities; regulations and policies; staff relationships; reducing risk.
Learn the different types of facilities and the common client population; visiting tips for each type of facility; learn how to assess a facility or setting; understand different levels of working relationships, key staff in AAA/T and their responsibilities; regulations and policies addressing risk management and infection control; patient rights and confidentiality; documentation procedures;
The basic training course includes the Handler Training Workshop and the Pet Partners Evaluation during which

Started in 1989, CGC (Canine Good Citizen) is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who
have good manners at home and in the community. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test receive a
certificate from the American Kennel Club.
